terminator and termination resistors
・High frequency signals reflect at open ports and affect the circuit. Terminators absorb the reflected signals to minimize the reflection.
・To absorb reflected wave, resistors, called terminating resistors, are used. If mounting is not easy such as in coaxial cables, terminating resistors are integrated in the terminators.
Normal chip resistors are used as termination resistors, Our high power thin film chip resistors are useful for terminating high power circuit configurations. In particular, the HPT series uses an aluminum nitride substrate with excellent heat dissipation characteristics, so larger power can be terminated by applying the mounting method described later.
The features of PCS・HPT series
・PCS:Aluminum oxide substrate, HPT:Aluminum nitride substrate
・Impedance matching: 50Ω
・Excellent heat dissipation, high load, high power characteristics.
・Easy mounting and highly reliable terminal structure
The application of PCS・HPT series
1)Termination at open circuits
Suppressing reflected waves in high frequency open circuits.
2)Termination at isolator
Absorption of the reflected wave caused by impedance mismatching at one end of circulator
Mounting PCS・HPT series
・Input signals go through the resistor to the ground, which causes resistor heat up.
・Even within rated power, heat dissipation to PC board needs to be considered. As shown below, thermal vias or other method of dissipation is recommended.
The PS series is an element that divide input to two outputs. Can be used in a wide frequency band up to 20GHz.It defines the power balance of both outputs.
The features of PS series
・Resistor type two-way splitter(input:1, output: 2)
・Wide operating frequency range: DC to 20Ghz.
・Low reflection using thin film technology
・Small surface mount type
The application of PS series
1)Splitting signals for further amplification
For further amplification of output, the signal is split equally into two ( after splitting, they are amplified and combined)
2)Splitting signals for connecting measurement instrumentation
The signal is split to be connected to measuring instrumentation ( impedance is matched)
